From the Hotel you have to walk about two km to Portugalete where we will take the “bike path” (BIDEGORRI). We follow the path that goes along the bike lane, indicated by the official wooden post with the indication "La Arena 10 km". There is an alternative route that enters Ortuella.
During the march, we will see Mount Serantes, at its top there is an abandoned fort from the early 18th century and a telecommunications tower that overlooks the sea and the old mining landscape of the area.
We arrived in Gallarta where there is a museum dedicated to mining. Leaving Gallarta we can see the summit of Montaño. The Jacobean itinerary passes under the A-8 and leaves the bike lane for a while to recover it later.
On the right there are some gardens in the Kardeo neighborhood. In gentle descent we reach the beach of the Arena, between the mouth of the river Barbadun and Mount Punta Lucero, on its top there is an old military barracks, remnants of anti-aircraft batteries and several canyons.
The beach is shared by the municipalities of Zierbena and Muskiz. You have to walk to the left, crossing a dune area and a stretch of beach, after crossing the bridge over the Barbadun river, we arrive in Pobeña. Leaving aside the chapel of Our Lady of Socorro, patroness of Pobeña. In the parking lot, the Camino de Santiago continues to the right by a steep flight of stairs that takes us to ITSASLUR.
To go to the hostel you have to continue straight to the center of Pobeña. It is the last hostel in the province, also managed by the Volunteer Hospitallers Association for Bizkaia.
